HOW TO ENJOY YOUR eBOOK
by William Thomas
Congratulations on your adventurous spirit! And thank you for choosing my eBook
downloads. You are about to discover the unique joys of interactive digital media.
Delivered direct to your home computer or portable reading device,* this Worldwide-
Web-linked, audio-and-vide capable learning and entertainment experience takes
conventional books and magazines to Star Trek levels.
To enhance your viewing pleasure and experience the immediate benefits of
electronic media – please open your newly downloaded emagazine or ebook using
Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. The first page opens automatically. It’s HUGE, right?
No worries. Just hit Ctl L. Or click on View on the top toolbar and select Full Screen
Mode. Either way will propel you into an optimized reading experience!
Now you’re looking an oversize magazine or book, one page at a time. Tired eyes will
think they’ve stumbled on an optometry oasis.
HOW COOL IS THAT?
To turn the pages… use your mouse wheel (or the vertical scroll button in the far
right margin) to move up and down through the publication.
To leap back out of Full Screen or other Reading Modes, just hit Esc on your
keyboard.
(Plan C: Move your mouse to the percentage figure near the centre of the toolbar and
click on the minus (-) circle until the page shrinks to 100% or 125%. Or simply enter
the percentage of magnification your eyes prefer in the box provided.)
Conventional books and magazines can’t come close to this backlit luminous reading
experience. And easily adjustable digital media banishes tiny print from your pooped-out
peepers forever.
Still…
Pages in traditional books and magazines are meant to be opened, read and enjoyed
side-by-side. This layout also enables a sumptuous photo to be spread across two-
pages. (In my electronic publications, I always use oversize fonts to make facing
pages easy to read without fragmenting the layout by having to bump up the
magnification. This is also why I’ve resisted the nifty “flip-book” formats that provide
the sound and feel of turning pages, but has to shrink-wrap them with Tiny Type to do it.)
Why not feast on a full-size double-page spread now? Jump back to the Adobe
toolbar. This time, click to open View and select Page Display. Run your mouse right
along the arrow and choose Two-Up.
PRESTO WHAMO! If Life could be reincarnated as a n “illuminated” magazine… this
would be it!
To use the realty fast Index, simply type your keyword(s) in the search box on the
toolbar.
Want to access the Contents? In View - Reading Mode, look for the two-page
icon at the top far left of your screen. Underneath is something that looks like a
diploma, with a pen and card underneath. Clicking on the double-pages opens a
vertical index with thumbnails of each page. Scroll down, choose the page you want to
view, click and… you’re there!
Clicking on any underlined word in the text will take you directly to the linked
webpage. Look for the Loudspeaker icon to play any embedded audio files. The
Camera icon plays embedded video clips. Try doing this with a print magazine!
That’s about it.
Feeling more adventurous?
To bookmark a page, switch to View, Single Page Mode. Then scroll or use the index
to locate the page you want and choose it by selecting the White Glove on the toolbar
to click on the desired page.
With the page selected, click on the previously mentioned Diploma icon at the far left.
This activates bookmarks. Now click on those Double-Gear thingys to bookmark the
page. (You can write a note to identify your bookmark in the selection box that pops
up.) Try it a few times! The entire process takes less time than reading the two
sentences of this description.
Enjoy your emagazines and ebooks!
And thank you for informing yourself and supporting my work.
